Darjeeling, Home-guard set on fire

Telangana is a proposed state to be formed out of the state of Andhra Pradesh and a day after the Congress working committee acceded to the demand to divide Telangana from Andhra Pradesh, Gorkhaland and other states also demanding to fulfils their demands but experts say that it is a unique case and does not offer justification to others those are seeking for separate state.

Because of the Telangana’s decision, many politicians and groups like Gorkha Janmukti Morcha have invigorated their demands for separate states and Mayawati has said that Uttar Pradesh should be divided into four regions and many groups met Sushil Kumar Shinde for their demand and also called for 72 hours bandh in Darjeeling. The city is facing agitation from many days when Telangana’s result is about to declare and Darjeeling city braces for shut down. Because of the Bandh declared by the groups the city people rushed to the market to buy essentials and because of these prices of all the essentials including vegetables skyrocketed as people resorted to panic buying. Long queues were seen outside ATM’s which continued till late night.

Traffic jams rule the roads as the vehicles from nearby tea estates came into the town for supplies of the essentials. There were utter chaos in Darjeeling on Thursday and was very panic day. Because of these hotel businesses also in vain and facing many problems because tourists who have booked hotels for tourism in Darjeeling are cancelling their bookings and avoiding coming to the city. Hotel businesses are facing big problems because of this. A West Bengal minister said that steps would be taken to deal with violence.
